Island Bread Company Kneads You!
April 27, 2012 by Melanie · Leave a Comment
There’s a unique feature and treasure on Washington Island! The Island Bread Company has been making artisan breads and pastries for several years now. Boy, are they dee-lish!
Owner and chief, Heidi Gilbertson, uses fresh ground whole grains that produce an amazing texture, crustiness and taste by using a wood fired brick oven. Up until early 2012, she’s operated out of a very small facility — and because she needs more space, she’s moving to the former Clover Farm Store, now home to The Red Cup.
Heidi is in desperate need of a new wood fired brick oven (total cost is $18,000). To help finance her expansion, Heidi has joined “Kickstarter” to help get out the word.
