Washington Island Has Lots To Offer Vacationers Of All Ages And Interests!

Recreation   Sail, boat, or fish the clear waters of northern Lake Michigan (boat rentals available.) Swim our pristine island beaches. Tennis anyone? Two excellent public courts are available. Or, for something different, try a trail ride astride a gentle Icelandic horse. Scenic island roads are perfect for biking and hiking anytime, and our island "Rec Center" has an indoor pool and exercise room for family fun. Some Sunday afternoons you can catch a game featuring the "Islander" baseball team.
Museums, Art and Nature   The Jacobsen Museum has a fascinating collection of Indian artifacts from the region as well as an authentically restored log cabin. The Maritime Museum, located in picturesque Jackson Harbor, offers local fishing lore via historical photos and videos. Commercial fishing trade continues here today. At the Farm Museum, step back in time as you tour original buildings, including blacksmith shop and pioneer log cabin. Though not a museum,  Art and Nature Center displays tell the intriguing story of why and how the island was first settled. (Fact: Washington Island is the 2nd oldest Icelandic settlement in America!)
Culture   The Trueblood Performing Arts Center offers Islanders and visitors alike year-round entertainment. It’s home to the "Music Festival" each summer when musicians from the Milwaukee Symphony are in residence for two weeks thrilling audiences with world class chamber music concerts, open rehearsals and lectures.
The Red-Barn offers summer music and theatrical events with local and visiting artists playing everything from country to gospel. Family Story Time is offered once a week as well.

For those interested in fiber arts, nationally recognized Sievers School of Fiber Arts offers a variety of classes for adults from May - October. Beautiful fiber art items are also sold here along with yarns and fiber art supplies.
The Washington Hotel has superb culinary classes as well as first class dining. History has witnessed the hotel as a haven for travelers, ships' captains and islanders for the past 100 years.
